So… Is This Perimenopause or Am I Just Tired?

There’s a moment — often around 3:17 a.m. — when you realize something has shifted. You’re awake for no reason. Your mind is replaying a conversation from 2009. You’re both hot and cold. And you think: Is this perimenopause… or am I just deeply, cosmically tired?

The answer, unhelpfully, is often: yes.

Perimenopause doesn’t arrive with a clear announcement. It drifts in quietly, disguised as moodiness, fatigue, brain fog, or the sudden inability to tolerate nonsense — including your own.

What’s comforting (once you know it) is that this stage isn’t a breakdown. It’s a recalibration. Your body is renegotiating hormones that have been on autopilot for decades. Of course things feel strange — something important is changing.

If you’re more sensitive than usual, it’s not weakness.
If you need more rest, it’s not failure.
If you’re questioning everything, you’re not alone.

Perimenopause isn’t a problem to solve. It’s a conversation your body is starting — sometimes awkwardly, sometimes loudly — asking for a little more care.

And yes, you might also just be tired. Both can be true.
